Grindhouse delivers twice the nostalgic glee

Grindhouse, much like everything else Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have been doing, is more an homage film than an exploitation flick. The heavy double feature is filled with aspects reminiscent of the late '70s grindhouse pictures, movies filled with bullets and broads, but also hyper-stylized garnishes. Nostalgia grips the film's directors, and it's apparent with Grindhouse that there can be too much of a exploitative, if reverent, thing.

Auteurs of Honor: Clint Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima and Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth

Two films have been released recently by two auteurs of cinema, both concerned with seemingly incongruous topics when matched together. Guillermo Del Toro's fantasy/war epic, Pan's Labyrinth, is concerned with the struggle of a young girl trying to make sense of the crumbling physical reality around her while creating an enticingly rich one in her mind. Clint Eastwood's Letters From Iwo Jima, is a stark meditation on honor and death from the point of view of the Japanese forces in the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1944.

The Fall 2006 Senior Thesis Exhibition is now on display in the Lederer Gallery. The exhibition features the final works of Geneseo senior art students Christopher Bruce, Brenna Van Norman, Martin Phillips and Tom Magnarelli. The show will run until Dec. 14.
