Milne Librarian pursues career goals

On Monday, Jan. 8, Nancy Greco, Milne Library's evening access services supervisor left SUNY Geneseo to further pursue her career as head of circulation at St. John Fisher College's Lavery Library in Rochester.

Greco's departure was preceded by that of Melissa Jadlos, former assistant director of the library, who also left Geneseo in August of 2006 for a position as director at Lavery Library.

Greco worked at Milne Library for the better part of four years, starting first as a reference intern while she finished an M.A. in library science at the University of Buffalo. During her time at Geneseo, Greco worked with Greek organizations and student athletes, helped to create Library Resource displays and art exhibitions, taught several library instructional sessions, and assisted with Summer Orientation. She is also an alumnus of SUNY Geneseo, having graduated with a B.A. in political science.

Sue Ann Brainard, a Reference Instruction Librarian and a 10-year veteran of the Milne Reference section, was one of Greco's close friends. "It was a hard decision for Nancy to leave, and we were all very sad to see her go. She always wanted to teach, and her working hours here didn't ever really allow her to do that." Indeed, Greco was often at the library until it closed at 1 a.m. on weekdays.

Yet for the long hours she worked, she maintained a jovial repartee with the students she knew. On many occasions, Greco helped sophomore Anne Sperduti, who frequently utilized the library's reference section. "She is a very talented researcher, and was always very informative and patient whenever I asked her for help," Sperduti said. Junior Jonathan Teixeira, a student and employee of Milne Library, had nothing but praise for Greco. "She was a heck of a woman. She was always friendly, talkative and had a delicious bowl of candy on her desk every day. When I was working she was usually the senior library staff member in charge until closing."

No immediate replacement for the evening access services supervisor has been advertised for or hired by Milne Library. However, three new librarians, Justina Elmore, Jennifer Potter and Theresa Mastrodonato, have been hired for the Spring 2007 semester.
