ROCHESTER, N.Y. - New York State Senator Hillary Clinton stopped in Rochester on Monday to propose "Greenprint Rochester, New York: Turning Green into Growth," her plan to make the city more environmentally friendly.
The plan includes 12 steps created by the U.S. Green Building council and the Greater Rochester Enterprise for the recycling and reuse of wastes. These steps includes converting Rochester's High Falls area into a hydrogen production facility and "greening" Rochester schools. In addition, the East Rochester School District has already adopted a new fuel cell, which Clinton toured along with a number of Rochester officials. The cells are the first of their kind in Monroe County and are expected to cut energy costs and gas emissions.
Clinton also took time to answer questions and defend her progress as senator stating, "I'm very proud of my record, but there's a lot of work to be done. I'm hoping we will get different national priorities." This was Clinton's first visit to the Rochester area as a presidential candidate; she made it clear that energy and the environment are among the top five priorities for her campaign.
