Track impresses at Bucknell meet

On April 13 and 14 the Geneseo track teams traveled to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Bucknell Bison Invitational. Over 45 teams entered in this two-day outdoor competition, which featured mostly Division I teams.

Geneseo, a Division III school, held their own against the bigger schools even though they brought only a few members. For the women's squad, junior Megan Nolan was the main highlight of the meet, running an NCAA provisional time of 4:33.40 in the 1,500 meter race. This put her third on the all-time list for the women's track records at Geneseo and was good enough for a fifth place finish. Sophomore Liz Montgomery also raced to a provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:27.43. Junior Taryn Hand placed 29th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:00.58. Freshman Danielle Hunt ran in the 10,000 meter race, finishing 19th with a time of 38:51.58, and Lisa Halloran was 26th in 40:05.74.

For the men's squad senior Mike McGrath led the way with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 30:45.34 in the 10,000 meters, finishing in ninth place. In that same race several other Knights turned in solid performances. Sophomores Ryan Mulcahy and Jon Gauthier were 19th in 31:53.40, and 22nd in 32:00.90, and freshman Tim Chichester was 28th in 32:22.04. Senior Ross Hunkovic posted a 12th place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:55.64. Junior Nate Lockett finished the 5,000 meter race in 15:08.71. The Knights travel next to the University of Buffalo this Saturday, April 21, for their last regular season meet before they enter the SUNYAC championship.
