Geneseo Police Dept. wins award

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Geneseo Police Department recently received the New York State Law Enforcement Challenge Award for 2006. This award was given to departments according to their size; Geneseo's police department qualified for the smallest class with 1 to 11 officers in the force. The award was presented to the Geneseo Police Department at the New York State Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Conference in Saratoga Springs on April 19. They were recognized for their outstanding performance in the area of traffic safety and on having a comprehensive traffic safety program. This program dealt with issues including impaired driving, bicycle/pedestrian safety, occupant protection, child passenger seat safety, speed awareness, and underage drinking prevention. All these measures taken by Geneseo Police helped them to achieve a reduced number of motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents in the Village of Geneseo in 2006.
