Changes at the Sexual Health Clinic

We would like to announce the following change for the 2007-08 academic year: the Livingston County Reproductive Health Center (RHC) will now be providing many of the services previously offered by Health & Counseling's Sexual Health Clinic. The location will be the same, the second floor of the Lauderdale Health Center. The new Reproductive Health Center will provide free or low-cost reproductive health care to Geneseo students.

Reproductive Health Center:

Phone: 243-7540, 245-5738

Hours: Tuesday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Confidential medical services offered through the Reproductive Health Center include:

- Annual gynecological exams

- Pap smears

- Birth control

- Emergency contraception

- Breast exams

- Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections

- Complete referral service

The Reproductive Health Center offers quality care. The professional staff is committed to providing reproductive-related medical, counseling and educational services. Services are available to all Geneseo students, regardless of age, gender, marital status, income or place of residence.

Birth Control Information for Former Sexual Health Clinic Patients:

Students who are receiving birth control pills from a prescription written by the Sexual Health Clinic during the 2006-07 academic year will finish out their current prescription, continuing to purchase pills through Health Services. Once that prescription runs out, their care will be transferred to the Reproductive Health Center. New students or prior Sexual Health Clinic patients who need a new annual exam and prescription will be referred to the new Reproductive Health Center. Fees will be based on a sliding scale, and most students will be able to receive services at little or no cost.

Sexual Health Care at

Health Services:

The staff at Health Services will continue to provide medical care for all sexual health related issues other than annual gynecological exams and contraception.

Confidential medical services offered through Health Services include:

- Emergency contraception

- Diagnosis and treatment of gy necologic related problems, such as vaginal infections and urinary infections

-Pregnancy testing, referrals, and counseling

-Diagnosis and treatment of men's sexual health issues

-STI testing and treatment for both men and women

-Referral to specialists as needed for unusual gynecological problems, obstetric care, and men's health.

Question: Does Health Services provide emergency contraception? What if I need it on a day the Reproductive Health Center is not open?

Answer: Yes, emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) are available through Health Services free of charge during regular business hours. (Please note: ECP can reduce the risk of pregnancy up to 120 hours after unprotected vaginal intercourse. However, the pills work best when taken within 72 hours; during this time, they can reduce the risk of pregnancy from 75-89%.) Visit go.geneseo.edu/sexualhealth for more information on ECP.

Question: I am confused! When do I call the Reproductive Health Center and when do I call Health Services for my problem?

Answer: Basically, the Reproductive Health Center (243-7540) will provide annual gynecological exams and contraception, while Health Services (245-5736) will provide all other sexual health and primary care health needs.
