Women's field hockey tops New Paltz

On Saturday, Sept. 22, the Geneseo women's field hockey team hosted their SUNYAC opponents, the New Paltz Hawks.

The first half featured a scoring binge by both teams. Geneseo struck first as sophomore Jean Nolan tallied her first of two goals for the day off a pass by freshman teammate Michelle Milkovich.

The Hawks, however, kept things interesting as they tied the game on a goal from Kristen Donnelly at the 6:06 mark. Jess Moore was credited with the assist. Moore then gave New Paltz the lead at the 11:57 mark after a pass from Sarah Schloss.

The Knights would not give in and rose to the challenge, as senior Kristen Paczkowski scored off a pass from Nolan at 14:04. Nolan, who received Athlete of the Week honors for her performance during the game, then gave Geneseo a one-goal lead at 24:58 with a pass from senior Lauren McCauley, with Milkovich then adding the insurance goal towards the end at 40:52.

Sophomore goalie Emily O'Leary made two saves to earn the win in the nets. Geneseo advanced to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC.

The Knights host Houghton on Wednesday, Sept. 26, before traveling to Oswego this Saturday, Sept. 29.
