Last Wednesday, Geneseo alumnus Sean Ryan was killed after losing control of his car and crashing into the back of a parked tractor trailer on the Thruway near the town of Evans.
Ryan had graduated from Geneseo this past spring with a bachelor's degree in childhood education and was working toward a master's degree in education literacy at SUNY Fredonia.
His death marked one of five fatal accidents over a four-day period in Western New York; State Police Sergeant David Miller blamed poor weather conditions. Ryan was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, and the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
In a Facebook group dedicated to Ryan's memory, friends described him as "genuine in [his] love for others" and "a very nice guy who would always make you feel welcome."
Ryan's parents have asked that donations be made to the Geneseo Foundation in lieu of flowers.
