New fundraising director aims to enrich college

Longtime Geneseo businessman John Linfoot recently advanced in the college administration upon appointment to a senior fundraising position.

Linfoot, former vice chairman of the Geneseo Foundation, is now the director of special development, a position in the Division of College Advancement. As director, Linfoot plans to cultivate relationships in order to generate funds to help support student activities and research programs.

"I have seen the college evolve into something extraordinarily special for the village of Geneseo," Linfoot said. "I find it gratifying to create opportunities that will allow students to succeed in academic, research, athletic and civic engagement programs."

Linfoot, a longtime private donor to Geneseo, has stated that his goal is to generate enough funds from private donors so that more students will have the opportunity to study abroad, join athletic clubs or create new projects, and to allow professors to facilitate more research programs.

Linfoot stressed the significance of study abroad programs by relating them to his own 12-week experience in Europe when he was a student at Yale University in the 1960s.

In addition to his work with the Geneseo Foundation, Linfoot has served as justice for the Village of Geneseo since 1996, managed agency operations for Youngs and Linfoot Real Estate, and worked as a registered representative for ING Financial Services.

He is also an active member of the Geneseo Kiwanis Club, along with a number of other local organizations, and serves on the Bank of Castile's board of directors.
