Saturday's premiere of Into the Wild kicked off Winter Week, a celebration to honor the five-month winter season that students in Geneseo have the privilege of enduring.
Despite nasty weather and frigid temperatures, the Special Events branch of the Activities Commission organized a week packed with exciting events to get students out of their dorms and spice up the long, cold winter.
Winter Week festivities started Saturday, Feb. 9 and run until Friday, Feb. 15. The week included events such as making snowflake grams. Students could make the grams in the College Union Lobby during the day, and attach personal messages which would be mailed to recipients of their choice. In addition, a board game night was hosted on Wednesday in the Fireside Lounge.
The first ever Winter Ball, sponsored by Special Events and the Accents Council for Enrichment (ACE), will be held on Feb. 15 in the College Union Ballroom to conclude the week. The ball is a formal event and date party attire is encouraged. Besides music, there will be refreshments, a photo center sponsored by Geneseo Late Knight, and craft booths set up by ACE organizations.
Winter Week coordinators are eager to see students enjoying themselves at the events.
"Winter Week is a celebration of the spring semester," said freshman and co-coordinator of special events Lee Murphy. "It is a way for students to get back into the groove of campus life."
"All of the Winter Week events are something for everybody to do," said junior Nate Stevens, another special events co-coordinator. "We try to use the student funds wisely. This is a way we can use the money to make students' lives better with events for everyone to enjoy."
Students seem to be equally enthusiastic about the events.
"I am really excited about getting dressed up and going to the Winter Ball with my friends," said Kim Skeggs, a junior.
Put on your classiest clothes, bring all of your closest friends, and don't forget your dancing shoes! You don't want to miss out - Winter Ball could be the best PG-rated fun you've had in a long time.
