Best Male Athlete:Scott MortonJunior, Baskeball
Morton was the basketball team's leading scorer this year with 431 points, and he averaged 16 points per game. The junior sank a team-leading 37 three-point shots, grabbed an average of 5.4 rebounds per game, and had 39 blocks and 43 steals on his way to first team all-SUNYAC honors.
2nd place: Matt Cyr (senior, hockey) - Cyr was the leading scorer for the Ice Knights, scoring 13 goals and recording 13 assists to contribute a team-leading 26 points this season. His 41 career goals for Geneseo are second only to teammate Trent Cassan, a senior, who has 42.
3rd place: Jeff Howe (junior, basketball) - A 60 percent shooter, Howe was the men's basketball team's second leading scorer, with 387 points this season. He averaged 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this year and was named to the all-SUNYAC second team.
Best Female AthleteAnnie Verdino Senior, basketball
With 327 points and an 80 percent average from the free-throw line, the second team all-SUNYAC performer was one of coach Scott Hemer's most consistent performers. Verdino's 12.6 scoring average is four points higher than any other player on the team. She was a 40 percent shooter, also sinking a team-leading 23 three pointers.
2nd place: Khadija Campbell (sophomore, basketball) - Campbell scored 208 points for the women's basketball team, averaging eight per game. She averaged a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per game, and finished the season with 53 steals.
3rd place: Tracy Wangelin (junior, basketball) - Wangelin was third on the women's basketball team with 183 points this season. She averaged 7 points per game and shot 34 percent from three point range.
Best Freshman (Male)Russell SullivanSwimming
Sullivan came up huge for the Blue Wave last month at the SUNYAC championship meet. He helped the 400-medley relay team to a first-place finish, and took first place in the 200 backstroke. Sullivan was also a key member of the 200-medley relay team that finished second, and he took home a silver medal in the 100 backstroke.
2nd place: Andrew Gorcica (swimming) - At the SUNYAC championship meet, Gorcica took home second place in the 200 breaststroke. Along with Sullivan, he helped propel the 400-medley relay team to a first place finish. Gorcica also finished fourth in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke.
3rd place: Daniel Sullivan (hockey) - Sullivan contributed to 14 goals this season, scoring five and assisting on nine. In two games early in the season, it was Sullivan who scored the go-ahead goal for the Ice Knights.
Best Freshman (Female)Jennifer AnthoneSwimming
Anthone performed exceptionally well last month at the SUNYAC championship meet. She helped the women's 200-free relay, 400-free relay and 800-free relay teams to first place finishes. She also placed second in the women's 50 free, third in the women's 100 free and fifth in the women's 100 fly.
2nd place: Michelle Rodriguez (swimming) - Rodriguez placed first in the 500 free, second in the 200 free and second again in the 100 free at the SUNYAC championships, and helped the 200-free relay, 800-free relay and 400-free relay to first place finishes.
3rd place: Daina Bouquin (swimming) - Bouquin was yet another productive Blue Wave freshman; she placed first in the 100 fly at the SUNYAC championship meet. Bouquin placed third in the 200 fly, and sixth in the 200 IM.
Best Head CoachPaul DotterweichSwimming and diving
Dotterweich has to get the nod as the best coach of the winter session. Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams were undefeated this season, placed top three in all but one of their tournaments, and absolutely dominated the competition in the SUNYAC championship meet. Several of his athletes qualified for nationals at the end of the season, and if that wasn't enough, Dotterweich was named the SUNYAC Head Coach of the Year.
2nd place: Steve Minton (men's basketball) - Minton got the men's basketball team off to a 9-0 start this season and took the Knights to the SUNYAC semifinals. His team finished the regular season with a record of 18-7 overall and 11-5 in the SUNYACs, despite mid-season injuries to some of his best players.
3rd place: Scott Hemer (women's basketball) - In his first season as the head coach of the Lady Knights, Hemer endured a 2-10 start to the season but maintained the confidence of his players and turned the program around, finishing 12-14 overall and 10-6 in SUNYAC play.

Men's basketball defeats Cortland in SUNYACs, 63-60, on Feb. 26
After taking a 64-60 loss against Cortland on Jan. 29, the Knights faced the Red Dragons again in the SUNYAC playoffs. Junior Jeff Howe was a major contributor in the road win with eight buckets and five rebounds, and senior Joe Kling added 11 rebounds. Junior Scott Morton drained two three-pointers while senior Tarik Kitson hit six shots and pulled down five rebounds. The combined effort was enough to overcome Cortland and allow the Knights to advance to the semifinals.
2nd place: Women's basketball beats Potsdam in overtime, 69-67, on Jan. 26 - Midway through January, the women's basketball team had an abysmal record of 2-10. They got on a roll and notched five wins in a row, including this beauty against Potsdam. Geneseo battled back from a deficit and tied the game with five seconds left. The game went into overtime, where the Knights were able to hang on for a slim victory.
3rd place: Men's hockey defeats Fredonia 4-3 on Jan. 26 - It was a rough season for the Ice Knights, but this win stands out as one of the highlights. Entering the contest on a six-game losing streak against a Fredonia team that was 6-2 in SUNYAC at the time, the Ice Knights struck first on the strength of Matt Cyr's first second period goal. Cyr tallied again in the second period, and the Ice Knights battled throughout, eventually hanging on for a 4-3 upset victory.
