Geneseo's distance track teams traveled to Bucknell last Friday for the Bison Outdoor Classic, which ran from Friday to Saturday and featured 50 different events.
Geneseo's distance team for both the men and the women made a strong showing as a whole, contributing four top-10 finishes in the distance races.
On the men's side, junior Will Haskell captured a ninth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while fellow junior Brett Dolan finished 27th. The men also excelled in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter events. Freshman Tom Reubens finished 27th in the 5,000, while classmate Bill Juda held 21st in the 10,000.
The Geneseo women saw the same trends with even more success, as they too had a strong finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase by junior Lauren Ferrimani. Sophomore Sandra Goettelman earned a 10th-place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run, while in the 10,000 junior Laura Iafrati finished fifth. The standout performance of the day for the women, however, came in the 1,500-meter run, as senior Christy Finke finished second with a final time of 4:46.07.
Coach Dave Prevosti saw promise in Geneseo's limited performance over the weekend, saying it gave the team, "an idea of where we're at." Traveling with just their distance team, the Knights were able to focus on only several events.
"We're real balanced," Prevosti said of the team, "we just have to get healthy and get ready to make a push for the title."
The team had anticipated another meet this past Sunday, which was scheduled to take place at the University of Rochester, but the Yellow Jacket Open was cancelled due to weather.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Ithaca for a make-up meet postponed from March 31.
Notable first-place finishes for the women included freshman Maria Barbaglia (discus and hammer throw), freshman Brittany Talani (shot put) and senior Amanda Haney (high jump). First-place finishes for the men included senior Dan Pollock (800 meters) and freshman Erik Rickman (shot put).
The Knights now run in preparation for the Outdoor SUNYAC Championships, which will take place on April 25 and 26 at SUNY Cortland.
