Women's soccer wins sloppy OT thriller

The weather has not been kind to the women's soccer team lately, but rain didn't faze the Lady Knights on Saturday when they beat the Buffalo State Bengals 1-0 in an exciting overtime win at home.

The match was balanced all game with each team notching 11 shots on net. But after 90 minutes of regulation and 12 minutes of overtime, junior Katie Price scored from 20 yards out. The slick grass helped the ball beat the Buffalo State keeper, giving the Lady Knights the win.

Geneseo's sophomore keeper Katie Clerkin made five saves in net to earn the shutout, her ninth of the year.

The victory gives Geneseo its fifth straight win. They started off the five game winning streak with a 13-0 pounding of SUNY Morrisville on Oct. 11. All five wins have been shutouts, proving that the defense has anchored the Lady Knights' run.

The Lady Knights now improve to 7-2-1 in SUNYAC and 10-5-1 overall. The conference schedule is over, and the SUNYAC tournament field is set for the women's soccer team. The Lady Knights finished tied for third in the division and will get the fourth seed in the tournament. They will play fifth seeded New Paltz in Geneseo on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m., the winner advancing to play top-seeded Oneonta in the semi-finals.

Before the tournament, the Lady Knights will play non-conference opponent Union College on Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. in Schenectady.
