Ice Knights routed by Brockport

In a highly anticipated home game this past weekend, the Ice Knights took on the Brockport Golden Eagles at the Wilson Ice Arena. The Knights climbed on the board early in the first period as sophomore Daniel Sullivan netted an unassisted goal on a rebound off of Brockport goalie Todd Sheridan. The Golden Eagles quickly responded with two goals of their own - the first coming on a power play - as they took a 2-1 lead into the second period.

The Golden Eagles continued to tack on to their lead, adding five goals during the second period, while converting on three more power play opportunities to increase their lead to 7-1. During the second period, freshman goalie Cory Gershon relieved starting senior Jeff Pasemko, stopping 20 shots in his first SUNYAC match-up for the Knights. The Ice Knights added a late third period goal as Sullivan scored his second of the game, assisted by junior Dan Brown and senior Sean Hayden. This cut the Brockport lead and ultimately the final score to 7-2.

A major deciding factor of the game appeared to be the 14 penalties called against the Ice Knights, as four of Brockport's goals came while the Knights had men in the penalty box.

"It's tough to get momentum going when the team is playing a man down for a majority of the game," said senior Casey Balog. "If you don't bring your best game every night, you can get beat regardless of who you play."

Geneseo looks to rebound as they host two games this upcoming weekend, with a game against Potsdam Friday at 7 p.m. and another Saturday against Plattsburgh, also at 7 p.m. The Ice Knights currently stand at 5-2 overall, with a 1-1 record in SUNYAC play.
