Geneseo Student Television will be hosting its eighth annual 24-hour telethon in the Union Ballroom from 2 p.m. on Nov. 21 non-stop until 2 p.m. Nov. 22.
GSTV will be raising money for the Geneseo chapter of Invisible Children, a group which helps build schools for children in Uganda.
Each year, GSTV chooses to sponsor a different charity or organization, for which to raise money and awareness. In the past, organizations such as Friends of H.O.R.S.E. Rescue, Chances and Changes, and Teresa House were shown during the telethon as funds were raised for those causes.
GSTV's special events coordinator Keren Carmeli organized this year's telethon.
"I was looking for a charity in the beginning of this semester," she said. "When I went to the Invisible Children's meeting I thought that they were a great organization to raise money for." She is hoping the event has a large turnout.
The telethon involves 24 hours of live programming on GSTV's channel 4 on campus. In addition to extended live GTSV classics such as News, SNEWS, Co-Ed Dorm, Sportsblock, 50 half of 100, and the premiere of Wiseasses, there will a multitude of outside groups performing live.
Different movies from Invisible Children, including the original movie that started the entire organization, will also be broadcasted. Throughout the night, door prizes will be awarded, as many business have donated gift certificates, ranging from a free hair cut at Image Empire to a gift certificate at Applebee's.
All of the telethon's proceeds go to the Geneseo Chapter for Invisible Children, 90 percent of which Invisible Children uses on the actual ground in Northern Uganda.
