Student Honors Recital showcases skilled performers

Geneseo's School of the Arts Honors Recital featured the winners of the annual Honors Competition on Saturday in Wadsworth Auditorium.

This year's featured performers were junior Devon Borowski, senior Elizabeth Weybright, junior Angela Carducci and senior Nathaniel Gworek.

First to perform was Borowski, a baritone member of the elite Geneseo Chamber Singers. He began with the baroque aria, "Già il sole dal Gange" composed by Alessandro Scarlatti. Next he sang "Amarilli, mia bella," a madrigal by Giulio Caccini, and he concluded with Giacomo Carissimi's "Vittoria, mio core!" Borowski's warm, full voice resonated through the auditorium as he performed each piece.

Weybright took the stage next and performed a distinctive jazz piece on her cello entitled "Julie-O," composed by Mark Summer. Carducci, a mezzo-soprano, sang "Dido's Lament" by Henry Purcell and impressively hit even the piece's highest notes.

Borowski then returned to the stage to sing "Bob's Aria" from "The Old Maid and the Thief" by Gian Carlo Menotti. Each change in dynamic was beautifully executed.

Upon Carducci's return to the stage, she sang a lovely rendition of "Chanson d'Amour" by Gabriel Fauré.

The honors recital concluded with Gworek's performance of "Mexican Dance No. 2," a dynamic marimba piece that was as entertaining to watch as it was to hear.
