On Oct. 25, Claire Wright assumed her new position as Geneseo’s Student Association program advisor.
Wright’s job as SA program advisor is primarily to assist and advise all student-run organizations and events. Wright said that she is available to negotiate SA contracts, assist with promotions and publication work and help with SA-funded events like Siblings Weekend, Winter Week and SpringFest. Wright acts as a senior overseer to help students with their clubs and the events they host.
“I was told coming onto campus that the students were phenomenal, that they are innovative, creative and intelligent, and thus far that has held very true,” Wright said. “They have so much to offer and I am in the position where they can learn from what I have to offer and I can learn from them.”
One of Wright’s primary focuses is the Alliance for Community Enrichment program. A.C.E. is a committee comprised of eight SA-funded multicultural and special interests clubs whose mission is to increase the presence of cultural and underrepresented communities on campus. She plans on working closely with the A.C.E. groups as well as with many other funded and non-funded organizations.
“Working with [the students], particularly the SA executive committee, gives me a completely different perspective on the students and the organizations they work with,” Wright said. “They are the top tier in student programming and everything filters down from them, and it’s exciting to be that directly involved with everything that goes on.”
“It’s not a widely known position,” admitted Wright. “But I want to change that by telling students I’m here to help. I am trying to meet as many students as I can, so they know I am here as a resource.”
Wright, who recently received her master’s degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts, spent the last year and a half working as a graduate assistant with Springfield College’s Student Association.
On Nov. 3, Wright was officially welcomed by students and staff into the Geneseo community at a meet and greet welcoming ceremony at the Fireside Lounge in the Union.
