Third annual Ghana Gala

The Ghana Project and Zeta Beta Xi made the Atlantic Ocean feel a whole lot smaller on March 21 at the third annual Ghana Gala in the Union Ballroom. Colorful garb lit up the stage when dancers and actors brought to life the rich traditions of the Ghanaian culture, and a few proud ladies and gentlemen showed off their traditional wardrobes in a fun fashion show. The Ghana Project is not a cultural club, but works to enhance the experience of students who are interested in study abroad and cross-cultural experiences. Though one of Geneseo's newer clubs, the group has come a long way in just a few years and succeeded in bringing together two hemispheres under one roof and having a blast all the while. This year's Gala was the first that brought a ticket charge - the event was standing room only and raised over $600.

Members of The Ghana Project used the opportunity to present a breakdown of the club's spending. The organization is currently selecting a school in Ghana to sponsor and will send either technology or monetary support once details are finalized.

Featured speakers of the evening were Cynthia Oswald, president of the Livingston County Chamber of Commerce & Executive Director of the Livingston County Education Alliance, and Ben DeGeorge '09, a cofounder of The Ghana Project and the current vice president of sales and marketing and co-owner of St. Pauly Textiles. Oswald has been instrumental in helping the club establish relationships with the local community.
