SA proposal voted down after heated discussion

Student Association President Nick Spengler's proposal to allocate $5,000 for Student Government Meetings was unanimously voted down Wednesday Sept. 21.

Had the reading passed, the money would have been used for food, prizes and speakers at SA general meetings. The intention was to increase voluntary attendance and participation.

While senior Malcom Cohen said that the proposal was "the best idea he had ever heard for increasing student participation in governance," a text message poll of the room at the end of discussion resulted in 73 percent of poll respondents saying they were opposed to the idea.

Discussion was heated, and ultimately ended in the executive board's unanimous vote to not pass the proposal.
