Autumn wardrobe woes? Revamp during fall break

It’s that time of the year again: fall break. Whether you’re heading home to catch up with your family and friends or to eat your heart out, remember to bring back a suitcase with all the fashion essentials.

Geneseo, while breathtaking during the days of fall, can be quite frigid at night. So what should you grab in that hour before you return to school, when you finally remember to pack? According to About.com, “10 Fall Fashion Classics You Need to Own” include a fitted jacket, a long-sleeve white button-up shirt and tall boots.

While I agree with the white button-up shirt and boots, the best advice I can give is to bring a warm jacket you can layer with. Although the temperature outside may be dropping, the temperature inside your classrooms will likely get even warmer to overcompensate for the cold outside.

Grab some sweaters from home, especially in black or white, because they go with almost everything. Throw your coat on over that and you’ll look fashionable and weather appropriate. Also, don’t overlook the value of a good, warm scarf.

Make sure you grab a pair of comfortable boots for trekking around campus. If your boots are stylish but uncomfortable, the hills of Geneseo will get the better of you. Retire your flip-flops for the season, and take the majority of them home to make room for boots.

Lastly, if you don’t own them already, I recommend buying a rain jacket and rain boots. It will inevitably rain throughout the rest of the semester, and preparing yourself will save you from being that person using a plastic bag as an umbrella.

Remember to stuff yourself with home-cooked food, pack a suitcase with the essentials and enjoy yourself during fall break.
