The women’s equestrian team hosted two shows this weekend at Rolelu Stables, Inc. in Geneseo on Saturday Oct. 27 and Sunday Oct. 28.
“It went wonderful; the team worked great,” head coach Kim Sanford said. “They prepared the horses really well; the horses looked great. The shows went off smoothly.”
In the two shows over the weekend, Geneseo had 26 top-three performances including seven first-place finishes.
In Saturday’s show sophomore Emily Lockard placed first in novice over the fences and third in novice on the flat. Senior April Krenzer finished second in novice over the fences and junior Erin Seymour placed second in beginner walk/trot/canter. Senior Lauren Weisberg, junior Allie Catalino and sophomore Danielle McCrohan all earned third-place finishes in novice over the fences.
As a team, the Knights finished fifth out of 10 teams with 21 points.
On Sunday, Lockard also won novice on the fences as well as novice on the flat, earning high point rider of the day.
Sanford said the recognition was “really phenomenal; that doesn’t happen very often” and it’s “a really big thing” for the team.
Other notable finishes for Geneseo included juniors Jordan Jones and Kelly Jaeger who both placed first in advanced walk/trot/canter. Freshman Ashley Olin placed first in novice on the flat and second on novice over fences while senior Ryan Lefkowitz took home second in open over fences and placed third in open flat. Sophomore Danielle McCrohan finished second in novice on the flat and placed third in novice on the fences.
On Sunday, Geneseo placed third in the overall standings behind champion Cazenovia College and reserve champion St. Lawrence University.
“[We’re] competing against 10 other schools, two of the top in our region,” she said. “To finish third behind two top schools is amazing.”
Geneseo’s last home show will be Saturday Nov. 3, and the team will compete in a show at Cazenovia on Sunday Nov. 4.
