Geneseo’s Week of Horrors incorporated monster dances, haunted houses, giant spiders and much more as part of Halloween-themed festivities held between Oct. 25 and 31.
The events kicked off on Oct. 25 with Fright at the Museum, a horse-drawn hayride from the KnightSpot to the Livingston County Historical Museum. At the museum, students could answer riddles for prizes, enjoy refreshments and take old-fashioned pictures with friends. “I’ve never ridden in a horse-drawn carriage before, so I really enjoyed that,” said sophomore Christina O’Shea.
On Oct. 26, the Black Student Union, Latino Student Association, Korean American Students Association, Womyn’s Action Coalition and Pride Alliance hosted the Terrors R Us Haunted House and After Dance Party at the KnightSpot.
“I thought it was really spooky, and watching people get scared, including myself, was really amusing,” said junior Katie Francis.
The “Please, talk with me” film showing in the College Union also took place on Friday. Students enjoyed free popcorn during the film about the haunting of Erie Hall.
Saturday night found the Union crawling with monsters for the Monster Mash Bash hosted by Activities Commission. The event included face painting, pumpkin painting, a caricature artist, a costume contest, a giant red and black rodeo spider and delicious snacks, including apple cider, caramel apples and doughnuts.
“I saw there was a mechanical spider, and I’ve never been on one of those things in my life, so I figured I had to try it,” said junior Bryan Alerte. “It was a blast.”
Students showed up for food and festivities in costumes including Jack the Ripper, “Tetris” figures, Mario of the “Mario” video game franchise, a Roman gladiator, Flo from the Progressive Insurance commercials, a nurse from “Silent Hill” and Bane, Malon and Link from “Zelda.” The fun continued with a showing of the cult classic film Rocky Horror Picture Show later Saturday night in the Union Ballroom, hosted by Inter-Residence Council.
Halloween Wednesday brought an end to the events with trick-or-treating in the Union.
Due to Hurricane Sandy, the Haunted Arboretum, originally scheduled for Sunday night, was rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 31 and was held in the Wyoming Hall basement instead of the Roemer Arboretum in South Village.
Freshman Mark Hitt said, “Halloween was great this year, and the events I attended were all a lot of fun.”
