HoliDIY: Handmade gifts fit for all festivities

The holidays are coming and there are so many people for whom we need to buy gifts. But as college students, there is such little money at our disposal. This year, instead of spending all of your money on gift giving, try making cheap and easy do-it-yourself holiday presents. They are sure to spread a smile.

One simple and fun project is the snowman chocolate bar. To complete this craft, you will need a large chocolate bar, white paper, a pipe cleaner, small pompoms, buttons, ribbon and writing utensils.

First, wrap the white paper around the chocolate bar. Next, have some fun drawing a cute snowman face on the paper. To make earmuffs, wrap the pipe cleaner around the top of the bar, and put a pompom on each end. Then tie the ribbon below the face for a scarf. Below the scarf, glue or draw on some snowman buttons.

On the back of the snowman chocolate bar, write a nice message.

Another great gift option is the cupcake Mason jar. For this project you will need a Mason jar, white puff paint, small beads, ribbon, small- to medium-sized bells and candy.

If you want, you can paint the top of the Mason jar white to make it look like a cupcake. Do this by swirling the white puff paint around to imitate frosting. While the puff paint is still wet, sprinkle on the beads. On the very top of the swirl of puff paint, place the bell like a cherry.

When everything has dried, fill the jar with candy, such as M&M’s or Hershey’s Kisses. Close the jar and tie it with a ribbon to make a bow.

Attach a piece of paper to the ribbon with a holiday greeting.

The snowman chocolate bar and cupcake Mason jar are simple and cheap gifts to give to anyone for any holiday.
