The SeaCow Grill, a new restaurant in Geneseo, is an interesting mix of food from both land and sea, but may not the first restaurant on a student’s radar.
The menu is a little busy and covers everything with starters, soup, pasta, chicken and steak. It had very little to offer for vegetarians and certainly nothing for vegan customers. The only vegetarian options are the more traditional pastas - cheese ravioli and baked pasta - and some of the salads. The dessert menu is slim and features mostly traditional desserts including cheesecake and key lime pie.
The prices are also a bit high, especially for a college student’s wallet. A starter of crab cakes and a soup came to almost $20 and the portions weren’t worth such a price. Desserts are almost $6 each, so unless someone is dying for dessert, it might be a bit too much to ask for.
Even though the prices are high, some of the dishes have very nice flavors. A favorite from the starters menu was the coconut shrimp served with an orange marmalade sauce. The coconut crust around the shrimp is crispy and sweet, but not overwhelming.
Among the many entrees, the one that stands out the most is the linguini with white clam sauce. The portion is great to have for leftovers or even for sharing, but for someone who is truly hungry, it’s worth it to finish the plate. The sauce, made with fresh garlic, doesn’t overpower the well-cooked clams.
Some dishes to stay away from include the seafood bisque and the chicken riggie. The seafood bisque is too creamy and has too much of a buttery flavor that takes away from the other flavors in the soup - even adding pepper doesn’t make much of a difference. The chicken riggie, a pasta dish, features various types of pepper in its vodka sauce, mixing too many flavors at once.
One thing that must be said about the SeaCow Grill is the staff’s excellent service. The hostess - ready to open the door for you - and wait staff are consistently warm and friendly. The SeaCow Grill staff is welcoming and determined to make sure everything is to your liking.
