Freshmen Suleiman Khatib, 17, and Jason Seeback, 18, were arrested for using counterfeit 20 dollar bills at local businesses on Nov. 5. According to a press release from Geneseo Village Police Chief Eric Osganian, the two obtained at least $400 worth of these fake bills, using them to purchase a prepaid debit card from the Main Street 7-Eleven.
“Video surveillance of the transaction from the store was turned over to the police department,” Osganian said. “The police department then shared some of the pictures from the video with numerous businesses on Main Street in an attempt to locate the suspect(s).”
Once the pictures were released, one of the suspects turned himself in to the police department and aided with the apprehension of the second suspect.
According to Osganian, both men were charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the First—a class C Felony—, Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree—a class E Felony— and Petit Larceny.
Osganian said that both men were “remanded to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash / $3,000 bond. Both made bail and were released.”
The investigation is still ongoing, however, as there may be more counterfeit bills in circulation.
