Since before most college students were born, United States Sen. Bernie Sanders has stood up against greed and corruption in the American government. He has made the most convincing arguments in a room full of greedy, unjust and corrupt individuals who want to hear none of it—and to this day, his message has not changed. I felt extremely joyful and refreshed when Sanders announced his candidacy for president. All of my pessimism surrounding the future and monotony of this country was shaken—I had a glimpse of hope. Sanders—a fellow rebel—is audibly angry at the state of the nation and has decided to take a shot at leading this country.
While virtually every other candidate has their hands in the pockets of people with selfish interests, the Independent senator from Vermont has always been about the American people. Sanders is our savior.
His recent visit to Liberty University was one of the most revolutionary endeavors in campaign history. In a school devoted to evangelical Christianity—a school where a student can receive disciplinary action for having an abortion—Sanders had crowds cheering in support as he argued cold, hard facts about inconsistencies in the U.S. Congress.
Many Republicans—and people in the Liberty University community—claim they are pro-life on the topic of abortion for moral reasons and want to protect unborn children. But Republicans recently proposed a budget that took away the health care of 27 million people—including many children.
At a time where millions of children in America are going hungry, Republicans seek to cut billions of dollars in nutrition programs. These programs include the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.
Sanders, however, believes that the legality of abortion should not be determined by the government on the basis of being “pro-life” or of helping unborn children.
Sanders made an incredibly memorable argument on this issue, saying, “I do understand and I do believe that it is improper for the United States government or state government to tell every woman in this country the very painful and difficult choice that she has to make on [abortion].”
According to the Democratic polls in the Huffington Post, Sanders is seeing a steep incline in support while Hillary Clinton has experienced a steep decline over the last few months. This is most likely due Sanders’ popular, liberal stance on social and economic issues. This trend in the polls is not showing signs of changing any time soon, which could boost Sanders to the top spot in the coming months.
Though the U.S. is ready for a female president, Sanders is the superior candidate. Most intellectual individuals I’ve spoken with are all in agreement—Bernie Sanders needs to be our next president.
