Super Bowl LII is almost here and excitement is buzzing, because this year, either team could win—right?
Well, not really. If you don’t think the New England Patriots will come away with the victory, you’re in denial. Sure, the Philadelphia Eagles could win, but anyone who knows anything about football would never bet against the Patriots. Favored by five points as of Jan. 24, there are many reasons why the Patriots will come out with their sixth Super Bowl ring.
Eagles quarterback Nick Foles is a strong player and may have had an impressive season a few years ago, but he’s not comparable to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. It’s a one-time Pro Bowler against a five-time Super Bowl champion, with the greatest coach of all time—head coach Bill Belichick—to back him up.
This matchup sees two of the National Football League’s greatest components against an average player who had a strong season. Additionally, Brady’s 27-9 playoff record—the all-time highest number of wins for an NFL quarterback—is pretty intimidating compared to Fole’s 2-1 record.
It seems that at nearly every game the Patriots have six or so additional players on the field, all wearing black and white—the NFL referees. While this is not exactly the case, the referees do seem to support the Patriots more than their rival teams.
During the team’s last game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Patriots were called for just one penalty, the fewest in a playoff game since the 2011 American Football Conference Championship Game. Remarkably, that sole penalty back in 2011 was also called on the Patriots in their win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Overall, it just has to happen—the Patriots are meant to win. Look back to the last two Super Bowls involving the team. In both games during the 2014 and 2016 seasons, the Patriots appeared to be on the verge of defeat, yet somehow, they managed to win. Whether it’s choking away a 25-point lead in the third quarter or passing the ball on the 1-yard line with 25 seconds left, the Patriots are bound to be blessed as a result of a mistake by the Eagles.
If the Eagles somehow pull off this difficult upset, football fans everywhere will be shocked. At this point, the Patriots losing just does not seem feasible.
