The spring athletes at Geneseo have had to battle the weather as well as their opponents this season. Besides intense games and incredible plays, the season has been highlighted by frigid temperatures and snow flurries. The spring season has yet to come to a close, but the teams have competed tirelessly and set themselves up for a successful end to the year.

The women’s lacrosse team sprinted out of the gate with an 11-0 record to start the season, the best start in program history. Despite three recent losses to teams that include SUNY Oswego and SUNY Cortland, the women are poised for a deep run in the SUNYAC Tournament and possibly the NCAA Tournament. With just one regular season game remaining, postseason action is just around the corner.

The men’s lacrosse team has fought hard all season and with one regular season game left, the team finds itself with an overall record of 7-6. The team’s many tight games have been a testament to the grit this team displays each week. Their most recent contest resulted in a 17-7 defeat against SUNY Cortland on Wednesday April 25. In their second season under head coach Nick Fiorentino, the team will look to make some noise in the SUNYAC Tournament.

In a season rampant with cancellations due to inclement weather, the Geneseo softball team has battled adversity and sits at the top of the SUNYAC with a record of 25-5. Much of that success can be attributed to triumph at the plate and on the mound. The women have scored 157 runs and the pitchers have posted eight shutouts and the season has yet to conclude. The women have just four games remaining before the end of the regular season, but expect them to compete for a SUNYAC Championship.

The men’s and women’s track and field teams continue to work towards the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships, which begin on May 4. Weather has proved to be a hinderance for many of the athletes looking to make meet qualifying results. Recent trips to Bucknell University and Westminster University gave way to warmer weather, which the athletes used to post some of their best results of the season.

The Geneseo tennis team has been preparing all spring for the NCAA Tournament that they qualified for in October. As the team prepares for the NCAA Tournament in May, their schedule has featured multiple highly ranked opponents. The team’s record has dropped to 2-6 as a result, but the Knights aim for success in the tournament.

Despite the spring season and semester drawing to an end, there are still some exciting games left to be played. All of the teams have positioned themselves for postseason success; come May, the Geneseo spring athletes will be able to say they accomplished their teams’ goals as well as their own.
