The Geneseo Campus Activities Board and Geneseo Late Knight invites the whole campus to come celebrate fall on Oct. 11 at the first ever Fall Fest. The will be held at the MacVittie Union Plaza from 6 to 9 p.m. and it will features performances by different student organizations including Bhangra, Hips N’ Harmony, Knightline and Exit 8.
After their acts, “The Voice” contestant and Geneseo’s own Austin Yarton will perform as the headlining act.
Business administration major senior Austin Yarton, known by his stage name Austin Giorgio, made it to “The Voice” Blind Auditions stage in October 2017. Giorgio, a Rochester-area native, joined Blake Shelton’s team on season 14 of the NBC show and Shelton used his one and only “save” of the season on Giorgio, allowing him to advance to the playoff round.
Business administration major senior Megan Avenia and psychology major junior Kaitlyn West are concert programmers for GCAB who have been coordinating the festival. They are eager for the event and expect a large turnout.
“It’s our first Fall Fest which is pretty exciting. In the past, we have typically done a Fringe Festival,” Avenia said. “[Now] we are kind of transitioning it into more of a seasonal Fall Fest kind of thing.”
Aside from several performances—including Yarton’s—there will be many fall-themed activities, games and food for students to enjoy. Apple cider donuts, cotton candy and kettle corn will be provided and various vendors will sell their wares as well.
“We just really want to bring students together,” Avenia said. “I think one thing that we noticed on campus is that we didn’t really have any opportunities for students to do those fall themed activities that everyone loves such as painting pumpkins or incorporating the themes of apple picking and cider—things everyone enjoys doing but may not have the means to go off-campus and do it themselves.”
In the case of bad weather, Fall Fest will be held in the MacVittie College Union Ballroom. GCAB and GLK have carefully coordinated and planned the festival and it will be a great opportunity to de-stress and celebrate fall before midterms commence.
