Invasion of Privacy: Zealous Weeks of Welcome scavenger hunt winners demonstrate love for GLK

Many competitors came to The Lamron’s Weeks of Welcome scavenger hunt to tackle the list of items and tasks that not even the editorial board thought feasible in merely 90 minutes. The winning team of sophomores Philip Romano, Marty Rogachefsky and Liz Faulisi thought and proved that completion of the hunt was more than attainable.

“The public relations manager] Charles said that the hunt was more about number of items, but he told us not to worry about getting them all,” Romano said. “So I wanted the challenge.” Indeed, the team found every item on the list, including Frisbees, pinecones, pictures of the bear on Main Street and even mistakes in The Lamron, along with numerous other items to collect and tasks to complete. Bonus points were awarded for following The Lamron on both Facebook and Twitter.

“I think we’re determined and that we work well together,” Rogachefsky said of the team’s accomplishment.

Their success strongly points to the fact that the trio does everything together; they are especially partial to Geneseo Late Knight events. Romano and Rogachefsky met over a year ago at a GLK giant board game night in the College Union, and Fausili met the two the following day at GLK’s annual foam party. Since then, they have attended almost every GLK event – they consider themselves regulars.

Along with a strong dedication to GLK events, the members of the team also immerse themselves in extra-curricular activities. Romano, a psychology major from Armonk, N.Y., is on the executive board of the improv group Currently Known As:, he holds a spot on Genesee Hall Council and also considers himself the “campus magician and entertainer.” Card and rope tricks are his specialty. Fausili is also a psychology major and she came to Geneseo from Voorheesvile, N.Y. She is a tour guide, Starbucks barista and a Dante House mentor. Rogachefsky is a political science and economics double major from Brighton, N.Y. He is a resident assistant in Genesee Hall and is on the Hillel e-board and a member of Currently Known As:.

But GLK stood out as their favorite activities on campus. “I like the Late Knight events,” Rogachefsky said. “We get to do more because not a lot of people attend, [so] you always get selected for something. Last semester I was hypnotized.”

The trio also admitted that GLK doesn’t have the highest attendance rate, because “Once you’re established in Geneseo, it’s hard to get people to go to activities,” Rogachefsky said. They each agree, however, that the lack of attendees doesn’t deter them from going.

Attendance at Late Knight events guarantees the acquisition of free items like GLK T-shirts and water bottles, in addition to a fun-filled evening.

“We like winning things and we love going to Late Knight events because we’re always looking for free things,” Romano said. “I have a goal to get a Late Knight shirt in every color by the end of my four years here. Every single one of my shirts is a Geneseo shirt, and I don’t mind it at all.”

When asked for a final word on the team’s success in the scavenger hunt, Rogachefsky simply said, “We are the defending champions. Do not cross our path.”
