Letter: "Booze for Beginners" doesn't reflect us all

I'm writing because I was unhappy with the article "Booze for Beginners" in the last issue of the Lamron.

This is mostly because it seems to contradict an article in the November 11th issue, entitled "The Lamron Today". In the latter, the author talks about how the Lamron "richly represent(s) the days, weeks, and years that it[sic] purport(s) to capture.", and that it will "serve as a historical archive".

I don't know about you, but I don't want future generations to look back on me and my peers and see that we were interested in the proper rules of beginner alcohol use, or using alcohol to "smooth the edges of a rough day".

I realize that advice about how to properly consume alcohol, as well as reasons not to drink it, were mentioned in the article, but the message from week to week seemed contradictory. What I got from these articles was that the Lamron wants "faculty, staff, administrators, parents, local residents, prospective students, alumni, students from other colleges and future generations" to see that we Geneseo students are very much interested in alcohol (even though a high percentage of us are under 21).

As a student that doesn't drink (yes, really), I disagree with the Lamron's curious goal of sending out a message like the one voiced in "Booze for Beginners" to and beyond it's readers, about Geneseo. I'll clip out the article and read it again in two years, when I turn 21.
