The Lamron is a student-run newspaper that prints a weekly edition on Fridays comprised of five sections: News, Opinion, Arts and Entertainment, Knights’ Life and Sports. Every Wednesday, members of the paper’s editorial board work for up to 12 hours in The Lamron office, putting together the paper by editing articles, fact-checking and designing the layout. As students who are balancing classes, other club commitments and jobs, mistakes are regrettably bound to pop up during this process.
Throughout each semester, The Lamron receives countless comments on the website and in emails critiquing our work. We welcome this; our staff has a tough backbone and can handle criticism well, and, since the e-board is comprised only of students, we are always trying to learn and improve. When criticism ventures into the territory of just plain bullying and name-calling, however, it’s understandable that we become a little disheartened.
The Lamron’s editorial board and staff tries to conduct ourselves as professionals. We take our work as student journalists seriously and aim to be respectful of anyone and any subject we report on. We’re asking that members of the campus community show us the same consideration.
Emailing us to call us rude names does not fall under the categories of feedback or constructive criticism. If there is something you feel we could do better, we’re more than happy to listen. We encourage Letters to the Editor and welcome people to visit us in The Lamron office on Wednesday nights during our production process or during our general meetings on Thursdays at 5 p.m. in the Hunt Room. We are always looking for more writers, or you can stop in even if just to learn more about what we do on campus.
