Problematic Kardashian family empire must fall, viewers should redirect attention elsewhere

The highly publicized Kardashian family, involving Kim Kardashian (pictured above), has been the focus of media attention for over a decade. It is harmful for the public to take such intense interest in their unattainable personal lives and unhealthy dramatic displays (The Heart Truth/Creative Commons).

It’s no secret that the Kardashian-Jenner family is one of the most famous families in Hollywood today. With the whole world able to see into their lives through “Keeping up with the Kardashians” and their constant social media posts, this family feeds off of the attention given to them from any medium possible.

Given recent acts in the spotlight, however, the constant attention this family receives must stop. Their fully on-display lives are unhealthy to watch, as they promote malicious behavior in relationships and unobtainable lifestyles. Consumers should take what they say and do with a grain of salt.

Most recently, Tristan Thompson, the father of Khloe Kardashian’s child, was caught cheating on her yet again, this time with close family friend Jordyn Woods. Of course, these accusations sent shockwaves across the internet, as the last time Thompson cheated on Kardashian was days before she gave birth to their daughter True.

Everything was speculation until Friday March 1 when Woods sat down with Jada Pinkett Smith on her “Red Table Talk” web show. During the episode, Khloe Kardashian took to Twitter and called Woods out for claiming she is not the reason Kardashian’s family is not together.

“Why are you lying @jordynwoods ?? If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public, INSTEAD OF CALLING ME PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story,” Kardashian wrote on Twitter. “BTW, You ARE the reason my family broke up!”

Calling a 21-year-old girl out on social media for something as sensitive as this issue is incredibly inappropriate. Kardashian threw Woods on trial in front of her 26.7 million Twitter followers instead of privately talking to her, which is what she or anyone in this situation should have done, regardless of her celebrity status.

Woods is not the reason Kardashian is not with Thompson—it’s Thompson’s infidelity to blame. Kardashian eventually realized this and later blamed Thompson in a tweet.

Despite taking back what she said, calling out Woods on Twitter was just uncalled for. Sure, it makes for great gossip, but these are people’s lives we are watching unfold. People in such a significant spotlight dragging each other through the mud promotes an invasive and hateful lifestyle.

Furthermore, in February 2018, 20-year-old Kylie Jenner confirmed rumors that she had a baby daughter, Stormi, by announcing it in a video. The video had Jenner’s friends claim she always wanted to be a mother and showed Stormi’s full walk-in closet of baby clothes.

The video itself displays how Jenner’s immense amount of privilege allows her to have a baby at such a young age and supply the child with so many items when many young mothers are never as lucky.

The video is tone-deaf, as only someone as well-off as Jenner would be able to shower her baby in luxuries and make a viral video about how she’s always wanted to be a mom at 20 years old.

Among the many other controversies in their days of fame, the Kardashians’ continued social media posts on holidays and family birthdays show them throwing around new luxury cars and diamond jewelry like it’s nothing. This lifestyle is completely elitist and, while mesmerizing to watch at some points, is disgusting as their lives reek with privilege.

It’s impossible to avoid this family; the Kardashians are everywhere. From time to time, we can be guilty of following their scandals or their fashion or their extravagant houses, but given their recent behavior, it’s time to cut them loose and open our eyes to how undeserving they are of the attention they receive.

They already have the cars, the houses and the diamonds; they don’t need anything else. It’s time we think about what we’re really doing when we tune in to watch their shows or Snapchat stories.

These people represent a very unhealthy and unusual lifestyle. The more we follow them, the more their empire grows and the more they can use their platforms to act as outrageous as they like.
