Album Review: Hollywood's Burning; Post Malone tops the charts with newest album featuring unexpected celebrities

Post Malone (pictured above) is a popular artist and singer. Among other genres, Post Malone is known for combining pop and rap in his songs. In Post Malone’s recent album Hollywood’s Burning , the artist experiments with celebrity features and electronic sounds (courtesy of Glenn Francis).

Post Malone’s newest album Hollywood’s Bleeding landed number one on the Billboard 200 this week. Hollywood’s Bleeding is Post Malone’s and his second to reach number one on the Billboard 200 after his album beerbongs & bentleys

The difference between Hollywood’s Bleeding and other recent releases is the many different moods that Post Malone has incorporated into the album. His songs range from somber to eccentric and feature artists such as SZA, Future and Lil Baby.

The album’s most notable songs are “Sunflower,” “Goodbyes,” “Wow.” and “Circles,” which are each well-sung and flawlessly produced. “Sunflower” made its debut in the newest Spider-Man animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which premiered in 2018. These top songs began as singles before their inclusion in the album.

Anticipation for the Sept. 6 release date reached a fever pitch in late August when the album was allegedly leaked by fans. When the official launch finally arrived, several songs immediately appeared on the Billboard 200 chart.

One song preferred above the rest on Hollywood’s Bleeding is “Take What You Want,” which features Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott. These celebrities give the song an extra dash of star-power that it probably doesn’t need, because chances are fans would have elevated “Take What You Want” to its current level of popularity without any features.

In the end, “Sunflower” might have a leg-up on “Take What You Want” because of its enticing rhythm and alluring beat. “Staring at the Sun,” featuring SZA, also stands out from the rest of the album. SZA’s voice adds a refreshingly feminine twist to Post Malone’s traditionally masculine sound.

Post Malone is known for working with male artists for many of his songs because male rap usually complements his style. Lately, he has begun to evolve and his collaborations with women are one of the most exciting steps he has taken to change the tone of his songs. Hopefully Post Malone will continue in this process of diversifying his typical sound to feature more individuals of various identities and pasts.

The Hollywood’s Bleeding track “Circles” calls back to a 1980s sound, echoing a mass movement toward electronic sounds in popular music. The ‘80s were one of the most influential turning points in the sound of pop music and the decade currently serves as the inspiration for several pop artists today. The tune of “Circles” definitely alludes to ‘80s beats with its rhythm, which mimics the lyrics of the song with its circular patterns.

Post Malone is known for being unique and unpredictable, which keeps fans coming back for more with every new release. If not for Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” his song “Sunflower” would have been the most-listened-to track of the year. Post Malone’s newest album is an incredible listen and promises to blow fans away with every lyric, tune and celebrity feature.
