Personality tests can aide relationship development, help you learn more about your partner

With the use of technology, dating has become more accessible with dating platforms such as Tinder, Grindr and others. It is easier to find people and establish connections with those who are deemed as “matched” on these applications.

One of the most crucial factors in relationships and any human interactions is the compatibility of people’s personalities. In other words, the infamous saying “opposites attract” may not be accurate in real-life relationships.

A famous personality test that helps individuals determine their personalities is the Myers-Briggs 16 Personalities Test. The results that are generated provide helpful explanations on how relationships in the dating world have an impact on individuals.

This personality test measures five different characteristics in its assessment: mind, energy, nature, tactics and identity. The results of the assessment showcase preferences regarding the shy or outgoing nature of an individual, their competitive drive and more.

These characteristics are significant factors in determining personalities. Such factors, like the extraverted or introverted nature of an individual, are pivotal when people decide what their type is as far as pursuing a relationship. These factors ensure that people in a relationship are content with each other, understand each other’s fundamental traits and are generally compatible.

According to the 16 Personalities website, personality is just one of many factors that guide behavior, and our actions are also influenced by our environment, our experiences and our individual goals.

Similar to zodiac and astrological signs, the different personality types that result upon completing the assessment are deemed more compatible to specific tiered personality types. Results also show which different personality types are considered non-compatible. Individual personality types are categorized into four different groups as Analysts, Diplomats, Sentinels or Explorers.

For example, an individual who has a personality type listed in the Analyst group would theoretically have a more strategic mindset with pursuing a relationship, where depth and intelligence are two highly valued traits. They insist on honest, open communication. For Analysts, a relationship that is not founded on these core values is hardly worth pursuing.

For individuals who have personality types identified in the Explorer group, they are the opposite in approaching romantic relationships compared to the Analyst group. Personality types in the Explorer group are more fluid and focus more on enjoyment while spending each moment with their partners. They tend to enjoy physical intimacy immensely, and they prove themselves as affectionate, inquisitive and open-minded lovers who love to share pleasure with willing and reciprocating partners.

The Meyers-Briggs 16 Personalities Test is important to understanding not only who an individual is, but also who the people are that they have in their lives. While results may or may not always be accurate, learning about key factors of personality can be useful in navigating romantic relationships and friendships.
