The MacVittie College Union underwent several changes this summer, many of which were implemented within the last week. Most notable among these is the Union’s transition from the Department of College Activities to the Department of Student Life.

The Community Health Alliance hosted Samina Raja, associate professor of urban and regional planning at University at Buffalo on Thursday April 25, who addressed the importance of urban planning and food consumption.

 On Monday April 22, six members of Geneseo’s Student Association traveled to Albany to discuss their concerns about Geneseo’s 2013 budget based on the State University of New York budget allocation model with their New York State Legislators. This is the first time in two years that SA has traveled to Albany for this purpose.

Vincent A. Ferraro, professor of international politics at Mount Holyoke College, presented the annual Kenneth Roemer Lecture on World Affairs. In his address, Ferraro discussed “The Future of American Foreign Policy: The Burdens of A Reluctant Hegemon.” 

New York state is implementing funding cutbacks across the SUNY system to bail out the system’s struggling hospitals.

Geneseo hosted Syracuse University College of Law professor of law Arlene Kanter for the annual President’s Diversity Lecture on Wednesday Feb. 27. Kanter is also the director of the Disability Law and Policy Program and co-director of the Center of Human Policy, Law and Disability Studies at Syracuse.

The members of the Geneseo Environmental Organization and EcoHouse are working toward introducing the idea of divestment to Geneseo’s administration. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to persuade the college to reduce or eliminate investments in fossil fuel industries.

Geneseo’s student-run radio station WGSU is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

Allergy Asthma Immunology of Rochester opened a satellite office in Geneseo, allowing students access to health services previously unavailable. The office opened on Jan. 7 and is currently accepting patients for treatment.

The Geneseo Federal Credit Union was recently awarded the Sustained Superiority Award, marking over 20 years of quality service to its members.
