CIT, faculty discuss classroom implications of new laptop policy

In the upcoming academic year all freshman at Geneseo will be required to bring laptops with them. Since the decision was made this past fall no official faculty meetings had taken place to discuss this new policy. Professor Jeff Johannes and Cristina Geiger, director of the Teaching and Learning Center, scheduled an open meeting on April 19 for professors to come and talk about their concerns with the new program and voice any questions they had.

Second annual Relay for Life a success

At 7 p.m. on April 14, the Relay for Life cancer research fundraiser commenced in the Kuhl Gymnasium. This is the second consecutive year Geneseo has hosted the event on campus.

Banned lamps confiscated over break, upsetting students

On Monday, April 2 Andrew Baker, assistant director of Residence Life spoke at the weekly Inter-Residence Council (IRC) meeting about the confiscation and destruction of five-headed "medusa" lamps over Spring Break. The lamps were banned on the Geneseo campus after they proved to be a fire hazard at SUNY Fredonia, but the move angered many students whose lamps were taken.

College celebrates 25 years of Humanities

This past Monday and Tuesday Geneseo celebrated the 25th anniversary of the humanities program. The events planned to commemorate the program were a panel of alumni discussing the impact of humanities on their lives. The other was a lecture from renowned Shakespeare scholar David Bevington.

Grademylandlord.com offers guidance in housing search

After a bad experience renting a house in Conesus Lake, two Geneseo seniors, Ken Laughlin and Alexandra Pifher, decided to take action. The original concept for grademylandlord.com was a joke, but after a few weeks of discussion the two began to develop the idea into a reality.

Automatic fees revealed as optional in tuition bill fine print

While paying her son's tuition for the upcoming semester, one mother of a Geneseo student noticed certain "optional fees" automatically included in Geneseo's tuition bill: an alumni fee of $17.50, a performance fee of $3, and a Health Services fee of $50.

Renovation of Erie Hall estimated to be complete in 2008

Construction on Erie Hall, which began in Fall 2005, will continue this semester. The approximate date of completion for this particular project is January 2008. Contrary to the buzz around the Geneseo campus, the renovations on this building were not supposed to finish this semester, according to Director of Facilities Planning and Construction Jeffrey Kaplan.

Benefactor gives $100,000 for arts scholarship

GENESEO, N.Y. - On Oct. 27, longtime friend of the College and six-year town resident Herbert Hawley pledged to donate $100,000 to establish a scholarship in memory of his late friend Jean M. Besser. The first of the scholarships funded by the annuity will be available in 2007 and is designated exclusively for music, theater and art majors.
