On March 12, the NCAA decided to cancel all remaining winter and spring championship tournaments. The news came from an announcement on the official NCAA website, which reads: “This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.”

The Geneseo softball team ended their season with 37 wins and just 13 losses during the 2019 season. After graduating Danni Napoli, Alyssa Persich, Taylor Moore and Jasmine Petrishin, the Knights have four new seniors. Pitcher Ashlyn Kersch, infielder Abbey Whitney, outfielder Hannah Elmer and infielder Brooke Wolff.

In the SUNYAC Championship weekend, the Knights had unfinished business that they were hoping to settle with the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport. In 2016, the Golden Eagles defeated the Knights for the SUNYAC Championship and, unfortunately, history repeated itself last weekend.

The Knights hit the road this past weekend to take on out-of-conference opponents. They traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa. where they played Carnegie Mellon, Ohio Wesleyan and Southwestern University from Georgetown, Texas. Picking up a hard fought win against Ohio Wesleyan, Geneseo fell short in their matches against Southwestern and Carnegie Mellon.

It was a huge weekend for the Geneseo volleyball team. Winning their matches on Friday Oct. 25 and Saturday Oct. 26 solidified their status as the SUNYAC No. 1 seed, giving them home-court advantage for the postseason and kept them undefeated in the SUNYAC. The Knights faced SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oswego and won both matches three sets to one.

The Knights improved their record to 14-9 this weekend when they traveled to Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. for the Clarkson Invitational where they played against the Nazareth Golden Flyers, the Clarkson Golden Knights and the St. Lawrence Saints. The Knights found themselves 2-1 on the weekend, beating Nazareth and St. Lawrence while facing defeat at the hands of Clarkson.

This past weekend the Knights continued their undefeated SUNYAC record with wins over the SUNY Buffalo State Bengals and the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils. Both matches were settled in three sets. In the Friday match versus the Bengals, set scores were 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19. The Saturday match versus the Blue Devils was very similar, with the Knights sweeping their opponent.

On Friday Sept. 27, the Knights took down SUNY Potsdam in a hard-fought comeback. After dropping the first two sets, the Knights extended the match to five sets with scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 15-7 in the final three.

This past weekend the Knights traveled to Scranton, Pa. to face off against the University of Scranton and Rowan University on Saturday Sept. 21. After falling to Scranton and beating Rowan, the Knights advance to a 6-7 record overall.

The Knights volleyball team traveled to Boston this past weekend, where they faced Babson College, MIT and Endicott College in the MIT tournament held in Cambridge, Mass. The matches’ scores did not fall in favor of the Knights as they went 0-3 on the weekend.

Following their disappointing start to the season, the Knights were able to impressively right the ship during their visit to Ohio for the Case Western Reserve Invitational. In addition to that, they surpassed an out-of-conference powerhouse team from University of Rochester to win the season’s home opener on Tuesday Sept. 10.

The Geneseo volleyball team returned to campus on Aug. 16 for summer workouts and the beginning of their preseason practices. This season, the Knights welcome five new first-year players: defensive specialists Emily Haber and Emily Bablin, middle blocker Jackie Borland, setter Grace Thomas and outside hitter Isabella Imbo.

In another SUNYAC weekend, the Knights added two wins over the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles to bring them to a 25-7 overall record. The Knights continued their winning streak, sweeping both their games against The University of Rochester at home on Wednesday April 24.

After a 3-1 record over the weekend, the Knights are in a good spot and have a chance at hosting the conference playoffs again this year. On Thursday April 11, SUNY Oswego put up a good fight in the first game, but the Knights showed to be too much and outscored the Lakers 7-5, and then 8-0 in the second five-inning game.

The Knights split games with the SUNY New Paltz Hawks on Friday March 29, losing 2-0 in the first game and winning 4-0 in the second. The Knights moved on to face the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday March 30. Against the Dragons, the Knights split games again. The first game saw the Knights go down 4-2, but they bounced back for the second game with a 14-3 win.
