Men's lacrosse stays hot with win

The men's lacrosse team stormed into Morrisville last Saturday and came away with a 15-3 victory, improving to 3-0 in SUNYAC play.

Junior Tom Costanza scored five goals and assisted on another to lead a balanced and tenacious Geneseo attack. Freshman Craig Lange also played a big role, netting three goals on four shots.

In all, 12 Knights tallied either a goal or an assist in the resounding win over the Mustangs. Senior Mike Pizzuto spread the ball around; his five assists set up goals for four different teammates. Junior attacker Justin Rand capitalized on each of his two shots, and sophomore Roby Farchione scored and set up two more goals. Senior midfielder Joe Malach got into the action as well, assisting on two of Costanza's goals.

Despite the easy win, head coach Jim Lyons wasn't entirely pleased with his team's performance against the hapless Mustangs.

"It's tough when you have less competitive games," he said. "Sometimes you fall into some bad habits."

Three goaltenders saw action in the rout over the winless Mustangs: Sophomore Dennis Costanza started the game and picked up five saves before yielding to freshman Alex Loewer and junior Eddie Watts, who recorded two saves apiece to shut down the relatively docile Morrisville attack.

"It was good to get some of the younger guys off the bench and into the game," said Lyons.

Leading Geneseo's dominant ground performance were freshmen Nick Kane and Joe May, who combined to pick up seven of the Knights' 37 ground balls.

The Knights headed home to face Oswego on Wednesday, April 16 before traveling to Potsdam on Saturday. For Wednesday's results, see the late scores box on page 18.
