On August 2, 2009, a benefit for the family of Lindsay Matthews will be held. The benefit will be from 2-7 p.m. in Oakwood Manor, 2985 Lakeview Road, Hamburg, NY.
Live music will be provided by The Boys of Summer, Caitlin Koch, Sam Brenner, and Dan DiNardo. A Chinese auction as well as a plethora of raffles will also be held, including a 50/50 raffle.
With a donation of $25, food and drinks, including alcohol and pop will be provided.
For tickets and donations, please call: Jen: (716) 597-8739, Jill: (716) 983-3695, Maria: (716) 491-5406, Danny's South: (716) 649-1194.
One of the benefit's purposes is to aid the Matthews family in recovering financially. "The Matthews family is still facing hardships paying for hospital bills and it [will] really help them," said Annie Smith, sophomore.
The benefit will also donate its proceeds to a scholarship fund that will select an eligible student from Hamburg high school. "The scholarship is in Lindsay's name and will be given out starting this year. My parents have already received the essays of those who have applied for it. It will be given out each year to one person picked by my parents. They are looking for someone with the qualities Lindsay had," said Scott Matthews, brother of Lindsay's.
Matthews explained that this event is taking place to continue to celebrate the life of Lindsay and to keep her legacy moving forward. "Linds did many special things in her short life and it's a benefit to remember the wonderful person she was. This will be her day," said Matthews.
Proceeds from the benefit will also be given to various charities, Donate for Life, being the Matthews' family's favorite because of the gift of life Lindsay was able to provide for others. "Lindsay's donation of her organs helps my family stay strong and the organization was a huge help during the whole accident," said Matthews.
