Field hockey rounds out the regular season, finishes 10-9

The Geneseo field hockey team rounded out their regular season, finishing the week 1-1. The team already locked up the No. 4-seed in the SUNYAC playoffs and a matchup against No. 1 SUNY Cortland.

On Oct. 26, the Knights took on Ithaca College and outscored the Bombers 3-2. Senior midfielder Abby Sayler, sophomore defender Bridget McGovern and sophomore forward Katie Farley all scored goals before Ithaca put up two in the last eight minutes.

"I thought we played hard and executed well in the circle," said head coach Jessica Seren about the win.

The final game of the season was against 16-1 (6-0) Skidmore College. Sophomore forward Kayla DeAngelis added to her school record with an unassisted goal right before the half – her 17th of the season.

Skidmore outshot Geneseo, however, 19-7 and had the advantage in penalty corners 11-3, leading to a 6-1 loss for the Knights.

"I thought we played better than the score indicated. They are going to contend for that National Championship," Seren said. "So I was proud of our effort and what we brought to the game."

Geneseo is now solely focused on its Nov. 4 rematch against Cortland. Although the Knights lost earlier in the season, Seren said she is confident in her team.

"We're looking forward to facing them. It was evenly matched at the beginning of the year. It should be another good game. We're looking to avenge our loss
