Blue Wave go 1-2 at Hamilton quad meet

The men’s and women’s Blue Wave teams beat host Hamilton College, but fell to Ithaca College and Hartwick College in a quad meet on Saturday Nov. 17.

The women picked up two individual wins at the meet, both by sophomores and both by narrow margins.

Sophomore Abby Max won the 200 free by just 0.39 of a second with a time of 1 minute, 59.97 seconds. Classmate Haleigh Wixson bested the field in the 100 free with a time of 55.73, a mere 0.05 of a second ahead of second place.

Other highlights for the women were second place finishes in the 400 medley and free relays and junior Emily Wanamaker’s second-place finish in three-meter diving.

The men found the competition slightly tougher. Senior Frank Schiappa recorded the only win for the men when he captured the 50 free with a time of 21.69. The time was his fastest in the event so far this young season.

With the exception of that win, no men’s swimmer finished better than fourth on the day. Three swimmers reached fourth, including Schiappa in the 100 free, sophomore Bryan Schaub in the 200 butterfly and freshman Kristian Tialios in the 200 backstroke.

The men’s medley relay and freestyle relay teams finished fifth, though the 400 medley team’s time of 3:39.29 was right on par with its winning effort against SUNY Cortland on Nov. 10.

Junior Brandon Peifer managed two third-place finishes in the one and three-meter diving for Blue Wave.

Geneseo will return to action to compete in the Ithaca Invitational from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.
