The women’s basketball team opened its season Nov. 17-18 at the Nan Nichols Classic in Wooster, Ohio.
The Knights faced Westminster College and Franciscan College, winning 75-43 and 78-43, respectively.
Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis scored a team-high 23 points against Westminster. She also pulled down seven rebounds – another team high. Freshman forward Allison McKenna contributed 15 points.
Besides outscoring Westminster 75-43, the Knights also outrebounded the Giants 46-26.
The Knights kept the winning streak going as they defeated Franciscan. Senior guard Melissa Graham led the team with 22 points while McKenna led the team with 12 rebounds. McGinnis also led the team with five steals.
The Knights also had help from the bench as sophomore Katie Peterson scored 16 points.
Team-wise the Knights outrebounded their opposition again 51-38. The team also improved its shot percentage throughout the game. In the first half Geneseo shot 32 percent from the field, but improved to 53 percent in the second. By the buzzer, the Knights shot 41 percent over the 40-minute game compared to the Lady Barons’ 30 percent.
The Knights look to keep the ball rolling in the upcoming Wendy’s Classic from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1.
