An energetic environment, mouthwatering barbecue and soul-filled live music. Sound appealing? Sticky Lips BBQ and Juke Joint on Jefferson Road in Henrietta, N.Y., where you can both dine and dance, is just that.
Sticky Lips BBQ attracts a crowd of both teenagers and adults. That being so, it can get very crowded, leaving you waiting for up to an hour for your table. If you are with a group, an early arrival is recommended to lessen the wait. On the upside, the bar has an incredible variety of beers on tap to please your taste buds while you wait.
Never been to Sticky Lips BBQ? To kick off your first experience, try one of its “All-American BBQ Combos.” These combos are ideal, served with honey-glazed corn bread and two of the restaurant’s famous homemade sides such as macaroni and cheese and sweet potato fries. The new combo entree called “Jane Russell” consists of Iowa state pulled pork, Texas beef brisket and two delicious sides for $12.95.
Vegetarians have no excuse not to experience a meal at Sticky Lips BBQ. Their dinner options vary from “BBQ Bourbon Tofu Steak” to “Barbeque Meatless Loaf.” I recommend the “Crispy Tofu Vegetarian Etouffee,” which consists of Cajun seasoned peppers, onions, zucchini, eggplant, yellow squash and okra in a dark roux, served over deep fried tofu and rice.
Try enhancing these dishes even further with Sticky Lips’ sauces. The restaurant’s original sauces range from “Betty’s Burning Lips Spicy Sauce” to “New York Apple Harvest Sauce” to “Cherry Bomb Sweet Sauce.” Combining “Betty’s Burning Lips Spicy Sauce” with “Carolina Clipper Mustard Sauce” leaves your taste buds satisfied.
After getting your barbecue fix, stick around for some music. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, a seating area is cleared for a dance floor and bands come to share their music. As the Cabin Killers get the fiddle, bass, drums, mandolin, guitars, lap steel and dobro ready for performance, diners leave their seats and head to the dance floor for some rockabilly music. Diners and concertgoers pile into the Juke Joint for nights filled with music and dancing.
Tickets for the shows vary in price, from $5 to $15. Future musical performances are posted on Sticky Lips BBQ’s website.
