Advertising Manager, Tulsi Patel, was fired from her position at The Lamron this week, after Student Association leadership stepped in and removed Patel for embezzlement.
Patel essentially served as The Lamron’s treasurer, filling out purchase orders and controlling access to the deposit and withdrawal of money from The Lamron account. Patel’s access to The Lamron’s accounts allowed her to maneuver money as she pleased.
SA alerted Julia Skeval, the Editor in Chief of The Lamron, that there were unaccounted for holes in the budget, which led to Patel being questioned by Skeval on the matter.
Skeval said “Tulsi was always helpful and quiet, we never expected she’d be funneling money out of the club for her own personal endeavors, I mean she could’ve at least cut the rest of us in on it.”
It turns out Patel had been using the money to throw lavish parties at her sorority and to travel the world. These various travels were documented on her Instagram, but the staff never questioned it.
“We all just figured she got a pretty hefty leadership award check to cover her travel expenses,” explained Skeval.
Not only was Patel embezzling money from The Lamron’s SA budget, she also had been pocketing ad money by depositing it in her personal account. This led to Patel accumulating over $69,000, which University Police went to her apartment to recover, but alas, Patel had already sped off on a moped with the money into the sunset.
