Valentine’s Day is a day of love; a day to celebrate the people we appreciate in our lives. Even though it is typically a romantic holiday for significant others, it does not have to be. Given this year’s circumstances, some of us may have decided to only celebrate safely with our closest friends or family, or even just by ourselves. Some of us likely may not even know how to shower ourselves with love. For future needs, whether it be for next year’s Valentine’s Day or any day of the year, here is a list of enjoyable self-love activities.
Spend more time with your pet/take your dog for a walk
Spending time with pets is a great way to realize how loved you are. Take time to cuddle or play with your pet. Taking your dog for a walk is also a great way to get in some exercise while bonding.
Bake something delicious
Baking is a fun way to treat yourself while at home. It can also help you learn new skills at the same time. Plus, baking can be done safely by yourself at home, and you may be able to drop off some treats to friends and family.
Tell loved ones that you love them
Reconnecting with loved ones—be it friends or family—is much-needed for all health purposes, especially during such an isolating year. If you do not live a short distance from friends/family and cannot do something safely with them, consider doing a call or video-chat. It may ease the feeling of not being able to see them in person, and it can be a great chance to catch-up on life and recall precious memories.
Have an at-home spa day
Self-love and pampering go hand-in-hand. Do whatever it is you enjoy. Eat delicious food. Watch your favorite movie. Take a nice shower. The list is endless!
Take yourself out to eat
Eating at a restaurant does not have to be a group plan; you can go by yourself and enjoy the food you want without worrying about other people. Want that chocolate sundae? Go get it!
Valentine’s Day does not have to be a day that makes people feel lonely. It is something that can be fun, even without a significant other. There are many ways to have a good day, and to relearn what Valentine’s Day means. Give love to yourself; it is the most important thing you can do, not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day.
