After months of speculation and focus groups, the Geneseo administration has finally announced a new official 24-hour study space to replace Milne Library: Denny’s Restaurant in the town of Geneseo.

The Geneseo Mudcats are Geneseo’s only on-campus baseball team, organized and coached entirely by student members. Almost thirty years ago, a group of Geneseo students who had a passion for baseball came together to form a club baseball team and today, the Mudcats count over 25 players on their roster. Led by senior biology major Mike Ferko and senior history adolescent education major Jack Anderson as the coach and assistant coach, respectively, the team hosts practices, arranges umpires and organizes both a fall and a spring season every year.

Two weeks after the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and eight others, including his daughter, Gianna, the country still appears to be struggling to wrap their heads around the tragedy. It makes sense; the death of someone who lived such an impactful life and left behind such an immense legacy isn’t easily forgotten. What doesn’t make sense, however, is how the media coverage has shifted in the days following Bryant’s death to focus on the grieving process of his widow, Vanessa Bryant, which is inappropriate to exploit and should be no one’s business but her own.

Geneseo’s Blue Wave doesn’t know much else other than success. Despite injuries and health issues plaguing parts of the roster, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are off to impressive starts to the season. The men are sitting at a comfortable 3-1 record and the women remain undefeated as both head into an invitational this weekend at Ithaca.

Although the season did not end the way the women’s soccer team had hoped, Geneseo is still proud of their performance over the last few months and graduates a senior class that has experienced monumental success, both individually and together. After falling in the SUNYAC Championship game and losing their first-round NCAA Tournament game, the team still finished with an impressive overall record of 15-4-1 and seven players named to the SUNYAC All-Star list.

Home is not always a physical location but rather where you have your favorite memories with the people who love you and where you feel the most like yourself. For Michael Venturiello ‘13, home has manifested itself in several ways throughout his life, beginning when he started at Geneseo in 2009 and most recently when he founded the first LGBTQ-focused walking tour in New York City. As the second All-College Hour speaker of the year, Venturiello spoke on Wednesday Nov. 6 about LGBTQ history and how he’s found his footing in life, thanks in part to the people who have come before him.
