CAS announces controversial price increase on grilled cheese sandwiches

Campus Auxiliary Services (CAS) has announced in a recent press release that they are raising the price of their grilled cheese sandwiches at all dining halls to $13.95 from its previous steal of $3.95.

“It's a slice of cheese between two slices of bread, and unfortunately $3.95 was not high enough of a price to make a profit,” CAS said in their press release.

The press release tries to alleviate the fears of concerned students by reminding them of the costs that go into the sandwich.

“We pay our employees a competitive entry salary of minimum wage, so you have to account for the cost of labor in the two seconds it takes to make a grilled cheese sandwich,” CAS said. “You need to consider factors like that before you judge our pricing. As a not-for-profit company, it is vital for our operations that we offer prices higher than for-profit businesses.”

CAS suggests students who don’t like the new pricing to, “deal with it or just use the campus alternatives to us such as,” before placing eight consecutive blank pages in their press release.

“What are you going to do about it? Use the kitchens in your dorms? We’d like to see you try! There’s always at least two people in those tiny spaces and half of the microwaves don’t work,” the press released said.

The announcement has left some students guessing what will be the next absolute steal to receive a price hike.

“What are they going to raise next?” sophomore Bethany Snyder said. “The $8.50 pasta and sauce? The world’s smallest taco at MJ? The $3.25 single serve mac and cheese cups in the vending machine that Walmart sells for like 50 cents each?!”

Not all students, however, are concerned by the recent announcement.

“Students need to have some faith in the free market. If CAS can’t make a profit at $3.95 then they needed to change their price or cut the sandwich from the menu,” the Geneseo Chapter of Turning Point USA said on their Facebook page. “But if they are struggling to make a profit perhaps, they should consider a buyout by the good proven leaders at Koch industries, the NRA, or one of our other generous donors.”

While many students are concerned by the price hike, they will allow CAS to continue their core values for years to come. These include serving the Geneseo campus, including their cable service that goes out during the Super Bowl and their dedication to diversity, approved by their executive team which features a diverse group of white people.
