Title IX office participates in The Clothesline Project

The Title IX office participated in The Clothesline Project from Monday Oct. 28 to Tuesday Oct. 29 beginning at 10 a.m., offering students a unique opportunity to engage in shirt decorating in an effort to educate the campus community about the project’s message: violence is never an isolated incident. An array of colored t-shirts embellished the outside of the Title IX office, located in Blake C, with phrases such as “we hear you” and “we stand with you.”

The Geneseo field hockey team took another step toward avenging their 2018 SUNYAC Championship loss this past weekend. Geneseo beat SUNY Oswego 4-1 to clinch first place in their conference, which means they will be playing all their playoff games comfortably nestled at home in the Genesee valley.

Support groups for LGBTQIA+ identifying students were abruptly suspended until further notice as of Oct. 9, according to an email sent to the student body from the Office of LGBTQ Programs and Services. Q’necctions, SHADES and T-Time are discontinued for the rest of the academic year and may only return if there is enough student interest.

Women’s and gender studies major gains traction in early stages

The women’s and gender studies major was created by Melanie Blood, who is now the coordinator, in the fall of 2017. Blood explained that the major joined the college offerings in fall 2017; however, courses in women’s studies have been offered since the 1970s as a reaction to new Second Wave Feminists Political Activism movements.

On Tuesday Sept. 24, a screening of the movie Goat was shown in Newton 204 at 6 p.m. as part of National Hazing Prevention Week. The Inter Greek Council required that 15 percent of each social Greek organization on campus attend this viewing.
