WTF: Is Corpse Husband as spooky as he sounds?

So, if you’re attracted to men in any sense of the word, the odds are you’ve heard of Corpse Husband. On Twitter, TikTok and Instagram—@Corpse_Husband—as well as YouTube, Corpse has gained an impressive following thanks to a rapid rise in fame after the release of his single “E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY LIFE!” under artist name CORPSE earlier this year. If you’ve never heard his voice before, please go listen to him right this second. Corpse … WTF, dude.

Corpse is a 23-year-old from California who uses he/him pronouns. He began as a YouTuber and gained acclaim for his horror narration videos in which Corpse tells true stories in his deep voice for a thrill-seeking YouTube audience. He reached one million subscribers on YouTube in 2018 but was only able to surpass two and three million this October 2020. For the scaredy-cats among us, Corpse’s true spooky stories are maybe a little too much to handle. Never fear, though, Corpse also streams goofy live sessions of Among Us—the popular imposter video game—as content for the more sensitive members of his audience to consume.

Before you get your hopes up, I’ll clarify that we don’t know what Corpse’s face looks like. There isn’t even any real speculation on the web. We know how Corpse’s hands look thanks to posts like this and we’ve seen his torso on the cover of his single “White Tee,” but the rest of Corpse’s appearance currently remains a mystery.

Corpse’s music appeals to fans of darker pop and rap, each track unique in its combination of angry verse and subtle screamo elements. Maybe it’s the voice, but Corpse’s songs are definitely … sexy.

Miss YOU!” reveals sentimentality behind Corpse’s creepy façade. His lyrics tell a story of regret in the miserable aftermath of a broken love, but they also mention Corpse’s dislike of his own appearance—perhaps a clue into the artist’s decision to keep his face hidden. A further examination of the lyrics reveals Corpse’s subtle pleads for death when he raps lines in Spanish and French.

The rest of Corpse’s tracks differ from “Miss YOU!” in their attitude towards women. “White Tee” expresses the same self-hating sentiments “Miss YOU!” but Corpse is colder, less vulnerable in the lyrics.

“I spill wine all on my white tee/bitches like me,” Corpse sings. Later, he comments that the boyfriends of some girls interested in him are “blowin up [his] phone / tryna fight [him] for a bitch.”

Cat Girls Are Ruining My Life!” is also pretty derogatory. Corpse calls women bitches a handful of times and says cat girls always fall for him. So, maybe Corpse isn’t the best guy to hang out with, but boy do I love it when he says, “cat ears and she uwu, uh.” Plus, Corpse’s admission that he’s “got chipped black nails” is pretty anti-toxic masculinity, which is always a hot trait.

What’s the verdict on Corpse Husband? I’m not sure. He’s definitely a little bit of a ‘nice guy’ who thinks he deserves the women who reject him. He’s also prone to dismissing the women who want him on the basis that they aren’t good enough for him, so do with that what you will.

Maybe Corpse is one of those artists who we can pretend is a better person than he is. It’s still nice to listen to his voice and pretend he’s singing just to us. Especially the slowed-down part of “E-GIRLS ARE RUINING MY LIFE” near the end. Actually, I’m gonna go listen to that right now. You should too.
